The Building of Salisbury Tour

This tour takes you on a historic walk through Salisburys origins  Learn how the Salisbury we see today actually came to be, starting with the journey from the hillfort of Old Sarum down into the valley below.  The tour will then leave the close & begin a journey around the town with stops along the way. No prior historical knowledge of Salisbury needed!

The tour takes place outside, apart from St Thomas Church. Please check the weather before your arrival as you may need an umbrella/sunhat.​​​​

Itinerary

Follow along with your complimentary tour guide as we visit locations including:

 

  • Choristers Green, Cathedral Close - The "Big Move"

  • High Street/New Canal - Solving the Water Shortage

  • New Canal/Queen Street - The Town Plan

  • Market Place - The Medieval Market

  • St Thomas Church - The Doom Painting

  • Bishops Mill - The Importance of Water

​The tour will finish back in the Cathedral Close, a perfect location for those that wish to continue exploring with a visit to Salisbury cathedral. You don't need to be a history buff to enjoy this tour but you will need a camera.

The tour takes you on a historic relaxed walk of the city.  Learn how the Salisbury we see today actually came to be starting with the "Big Move" from Old Sarum.  You will then take a slow walk around with stops along the way.

 

The majority of the tour will be outside so check the weather before your arrival, you may need an umbrella.
